Door mat?

A few days back...I was feeling a bit down in the dumps.

There I was just sitting there...staring into space again. Thinking back.

I felt taken for granted. A pushover. A door mat.

I realised many a times in the past, I care too much. I’m too nice. I let people walk all over me, lead me on and in the end instead of feeling happy I helped someone out...I feel drained. Just a little pressure or a pretty please or even just confuse me and I somehow end up doing stuff that others don’t wanna do.

Pathetic.

To confirm my thoughts, my college-mates and I were chatting yesterday. (It was a fun night btw! Steamboat buffet and then dessert at SS2. That SS2 shop actually sells very nice red bean...err is it called soup? Anyways I was pleasantly surprised by it. Hard to come by...nice red bean soup.)

Ok ok back to the story. We were talking about weaknesses. Immediately a friend said, “su ann...you’re too nice. You say yes to everything!”

-.-“

But I’m better now. I’ve learnt to say no. I just need a little more practice.

You know the saying...always put others before yourself? Well then where is the line between putting others first and being used?

***

And so...I went into the shower with all these thoughts. (I like showers...don't you? xD)

Then it hit me. Gosh I was wallowing in self-pity over such a small thing. Everything I said was about me, myself and I. I lost the focus of helping people.

Its about others. Not me. Not how I feel after a good deed or what I get in return.

What's that verse in the bible? Something about turning the other cheek, going an extra mile? Yea! That!

God must be one of the MOST taken for granted person ever and you don't see HIM wallowing in self-pity. Instead, He continued doing good. Blessing people regardless of us acknowledging it or not.

And we're suppose to follow His example, no?
